Early in 2003 I decided to update my bass rig. I was sick of the
muddy sound I was getting from my 15” speaker – plus
it was a real pain to lug.
While researching on the Web I found out about Acme speakers. I
was amazed by the number of positive testimonials that I read in
bass discussion groups – especially considering Acme only
sold direct to customers and did no advertising. In one bass player’s
poll Acme was rated as the fourth most popular speaker – ahead
of a lot of better known brands – and I had never heard of
them!
It seemed that Acme offered the combination of sound quality and
relatively light weight that I was looking for. So I air freighted
a pair of Low B1s from Colorado to Sydney. The air freight cost
almost as much as the speakers!
The first note that I played had slam and definition that I had
never experienced before. My doubts evaporated.
I thought Australian musicians would appreciate these great speakers
– but that most players could not afford the cost or risk
of air freighting speakers unheard and unseen from the USA.
I figured that, if I could order in bulk and ship via sea freight
and sell directly to customers, it ought to be possible to sell
Acme speakers in Australia for prices that would be competitive
with other imported speakers. So I approached Acme’s Founder,
Andy Lewis, and offered to become Acme’s first international
agent. Thus Green Square Music was born.
Over time I hope I can make other best of breed music gear available
to Australian musicians. My goal is to sell only the best available
components in each part of the signal chain. If you have experience
with any gear that you regard as the best, I’d love to hear
from you.
Thanks for visiting
