Early in 2003 I decided to update my bass rig. I was sick of the
muddy sound I was getting from my 15” speaker – plus
it was a real pain to lug.
While researching on the Web I found out about Acme speakers. I
was amazed by the number of positive testimonials that I read in
bass discussion groups – especially considering Acme only
sold direct to customers and did no advertising. In one bass player’s
poll Acme was rated as the fourth most popular speaker – ahead
of a lot of better known brands – and I had never heard of
them!
It seemed that Acme offered the combination of sound quality and
relatively light weight that I was looking for. So I air freighted
a pair of Low B1s from Colorado to Sydney. The air freight cost
almost as much as the speakers!
The first note that I played had slam and definition that I had
never experienced before. My doubts evaporated.
I thought Australian musicians would appreciate these great speakers
– but that most players could not afford the cost or risk
of air freighting speakers unheard and unseen from the USA.
If I could order in bulk, save on freight and sell directly to
customers, it ought to be possible to sell Acme speakers in Australia
for prices that would be competitive with other imported speakers.
So I approached Acme’s Founder, Andy Lewis, and offered to
become Acme’s first international agent. Green Square Music
was born.
While talking to Alembic about a new instrument (I had bought a
Series 1 in 1990) they noted the Acme launch in Australia and asked
if I’d like to represent Alembic. So we relaunched Alembic
in Australia in November 2003.
Early in 2004 I heard rumours about a forthcoming 600W light weight
amplifier from Acoustic Image. That seemed an ideal partner for
our Acme speakers – and Acoustic Image seemed to have a lot
of very happy players - so Acoustic Image was the next to join the
growing Green Square Music family.
After launching Acoustic Image, we started receiving enquiries
from guitar players who had heard how well Raezer’s Edge speakers
went with Acoustic Image amplifiers. So Raezor’s Edge joined
the family.
The ongoing quest for great amplification lead to Thunderfunk.
The need of many players for efficient, light speakers that can
cut through loud, dense musical environments lead to Schroeder cabinets.
Finally in 2005 the quest for "no holds barred" hi-fi
on steroids saw Accugroove join the line up.
We hope to make other best of breed music gear available to Australian
musicians. Our goal is to sell only the best available components
in each part of the signal chain. We’d love to hear your suggestions
about other top quality gear that’s not presently available
in Australia.
Thanks for visiting
